The GenStone system was designed for the average do-it-yourselfer. GenStone projects require only ordinary hand tools and most projects can be completed over the course of a couple of hours. Each panel can be cut to size easily with a hand or power saw and attached with screws and adhesive.

How much caulking will I need?

We offer two types of caulking, Big Stretch white caulking (one tube every 100 SQFT) and Exact Match caulking (one tube every 400 SQFT). Big Stretch is used along the shiplap edges of the stacked stone panels and in the areas where our brick panels connect. It is also applied where ledgers meet the substrate and where panels connect to ledgers and trim.

Exact color can be tinted with a paint kit and is used to conceal visible fastener holes in the panels, ledgers and trim.

Is PL 300 adhesive required for all projects?
Adhesive must be applied on the back of each panel, ledger and trim in an "S" pattern for all exterior projects. Adhesive is not recommended for interior installations over drywall but is suggested for interior projects over brick, concrete and rock. Tyvek® HomeWrap® can be used on the substrate if you may consider removing the panels in the future.
How many paint kits will I need?

One paint kit for every 400 SQFT of GenStone installed is recommended for all exterior and interior projects. Paint must be used on all raw exposed material revealed by a cut as exposed raw material will yellow in the sun if left unpainted. Paint is also used to perfectly blend caulking used to conceal fastener holes.

We also suggest purchasing one dedicated paint kit for every one tube of Exact Color caulking. This dedicated paint kit will be used to tint the caulking.

Can GenStone be applied to concrete?
Yes, concrete cover ups are a very common application. To securely attach panels, ledgers and trim, PL 300 adhesive must be used on the backside of each piece and Tapcon concrete anchors should be used to fasten each piece.
What types of fasteners are required?

For exterior installations over wood and some stucco substrates, 1.625" non corrosive deck screws should be used to attach the panels while 2.50" non corrosive deck screws are recommended for ledgers. For concrete, brick and most stucco substrates, Tapcon concrete anchors are the best fastener choice.

Drywall screws can be substituted for deck screws for all interior installations over drywall. Tapcon screws should be used for interior projects over brick, concrete or other rigid substrates.

Can GenStone be installed on a fireplace?
Yes, GenStone fireplace projects are an extremely popular application. As a general rule, if the surface is too hot to touch while the heat source is in use, or if the flames may come in contact with the products, we would not recommend using GenStone in the area. If the area is not too hot to touch, GenStone should work well for the project.
Can GenStone be used indoors?
Yes, interior projects including fireplaces, bars, accent walls and entertainment centers are common. We encourage you to check with your local building department to see if Class A fire rated panels are required in your area. If Class A is required, Class A rated GenStone panels, ledgers, pillar panels and trim by are available by special order.
How do I install GenStone over brick or stucco?
Installations over brick and stucco are similar to a concrete cover up. PL 300 adhesive must be used in an "S" pattern on the backside of all panels, ledgers and trim in addition to Tapcon concrete anchors as fasteners. Some customers choose to apply Tyvek® HomeWrap® over the substrate in the event the GenStone may be removed in the future.
Does GenStone require starter strips?
No, starter strips are not required or recommended, which offers GenStone customers a substantial cost savings over the alternatives. Starter strips can cost as much as $10 per square foot and are required for all cast (concrete) based faux stone and brick products.
How do you cut GenStone?
All panels, ledgers, trim, caps, pillar panels and ledgers can be cut with any ordinary hand or power saw. We recommend using a hand saw or utility knife for small detailed cuts and a table or circular saw for the majority of all other cuts.
How is GenStone delivered?

GenStone is delivered to your home or job site in boxes. UPS will deliver all orders under 120 lbs and will not require a signature.

Orders over 120 lbs will be delivered on a pallet by a carrier with a lift gate. If your order is over 120 lbs, the carrier will call you on the phone number provided with your order to schedule delivery.

Is GenStone waterproof?
Yes, when installed according to the install guides, GenStone is waterproof. GenStone can even be installed below grade. While the panels, ledgers and trim are comprised of a waterproof material, caulking and adhesive are the keys to ensuring your GenStone install is weathertight.
